How Hartela speeds-up people and material transportation safely with KONE SiteFlow and JumpLift
Due to the limited space and strict timeline, the building project reaching up to the 17th floor required mechanical and digital solutions that would make the vertical transport of people and materials efficient while adhering to safety standards.
With KONE JumpLift, external hoists can be removed earlier, allowing facade and yard work to start six weeks sooner.
Using KONE JumpLift™ elevators ensures continuous people and material transportation, particularly in extreme weather conditions.
KONE SiteFlow digital solution is used to prioritize material movement and minimize time waste on-site.
Hartela is accelerating the construction of a student housing complex in Helsinki, Finland, with the use of KONE JumpLift™ technology. Six KONE JumpLift™ units are being installed, including JumpLift 200 and JumpLift 600 models. The JumpLift 600 enables early access to Construction Time Use (CTU) elevators while the structure is under construction, whereas the JumpLift 200 provides the earliest possible access to the full-height CTU elevator.
“With JumpLift, there's no need for an external construction hoist. In many projects, the external hoist is used until the end, but JumpLift is big enough to fit fully assembled furniture, making it easier to move furniture around,” says Mikko Heiska, Responsible Site Manager from Hartela. Three of the selected JumpLift units have expanded capacity, reaching the height of 2400 mm to facilitate the loading of construction materials. The extra 20 cm eases the movement of kitchen cabinets on site, and the logistics are not affected by the weather. Based on Heiska’s earlier experiences, weather can really slow external hoists. “External construction elevators are sensitive to winter weather conditions. For example, last winter elevators were out of service several times”, shares Heiska.

Besides being able to move material faster, early utilization of permanent elevators supports site safety. “Roughly up to 20% of construction site accidents occur when workers are forced to use the stairs to carry heavy equipment. Protecting people from high-risk incidents also relieves them of unnecessary mental stress, which supports their ability to work at peak performance on site,” says Heiska.
The utilization of JumpLift technology allows logistical capacity at an additional 44 weeks, saving over 200,000 euros by improving operational efficiency. KONE JumpLift™ has a transport speed of 1.6 meters per second, which is three times faster than the typical 0.5 meter per second by external hoists. “Despite being smaller, JumpLift can move material faster and the cost is reasonable given the convenience it offers. It's a worthwhile investment for the benefits it provides.” Says Janne Alakomi, Production Director from Hartela.
Hartela also integrates KONE SiteFlow digital services with KONE JumpLift to prevent elevator jams and ensure smooth traffic of people and materials even during busy hours, making access to the CTU elevator available to workers without delay.
About Hoas Huippu and Hartela
The student housing project, being built for Hoas, comprises six apartment buildings with connecting sections, ranging from seven to 17 floors and totaling 359 units. It includes the Hoas headquarters, commercial spaces, a parking garage, rooftop areas, among others. The whole project size is 23,000 square meters.

The new housing units are scheduled to welcome first students in late autumn 2025. The project will be fully completed in 2026.
Antti-Olli Mäkinen, KONE Sales Manager keenly shared, “We are proud to contribute to a project that places a strong emphasis on the welfare of residents. Our dedication to construction time efficiency and safety enhances the quality of every project we undertake. By expediting timelines and speeding up the flow of people and materials, the project organization can move on to the next project more quickly and with fewer costs. This benefits everyone. Together, we're not just constructing buildings; we're creating vibrant communities where environmental responsibility and resident well-being thrive.”
Hartela is one of the oldest construction companies in Finland. Their projects include residential buildings, commercial spaces, office buildings, care facilities, and industrial construction. The company employs today approximately 460 construction professionals.
