KONE SiteFlow makes it possible to control access in construction sites to increase safety and boost productivity
The most effective access control methods for construction elevators
Below are simple hacks to optimize elevator usage, ensuring that materials and workers reach the right floor with fewer trips:
1. Mornings are for upward trips only
Upward-only operation: Program the elevator to operate only upwards in the morning.
KONE SiteFlow Floor Lock: Use this to set stopovers to designated floors only, avoiding unnecessary stops.
Tip: Place a sign on the ground floor indicating that the elevator runs only upwards in the morning. This will remind workers to take the stairs down if necessary and encourage them to prepare everything they need before heading to their designated floors.
2. Afternoons are for downward trips only
Downward-only operation: Set the elevator to serve only downward trips in the afternoon, helping to usher workers out of the site.
KONE SiteFlow Floor Lock: Limit stopovers to certain floors, saving time and reducing energy consumption.
Tip: Place signs on each floor indicating that the elevator is now serving only downward trips straight to the ground floor. This will remind workers to ensure they have everything they need before exiting, reducing the need to return to upper floors.
3. Lock certain floors
Access control: Lock specific floors during the day to prevent accidental stopovers and reduce the chance of workers going to the wrong floor. This can also protect floors with fresh paint or safeguard equipment in restricted areas.
4. Open the elevator roof
Accommodate larger items: Opt for an open-roof construction elevator to prioritize larger equipment and materials, thus increasing transport efficiency.
5. Use trolleys
Efficient loading: Use trolleys for loading materials to make the process easier, safer, and faster.
6. Schedule trips
Team scheduling: Divide teams into groups and schedule entries and exits to avoid queuing for the elevator.
Material delivery timing: Schedule material delivery and major transport during off-peak hours such as lunch breaks. Use KONE SiteFlow Floor Lock to facilitate exclusive access.
7. Use the stairs for short trips
Encourage stair use: Advise workers to use stairs for one or two extra floors to decompress the elevator. KONE SiteFlow Floor Lock can be set to refuse service for trips less than three floors.
